Letter to the Editor

Photos available from North Platte museum

Monday, August 22, 2022

Dear Editor,

We wrote in 2020 to ask your help. We once again make that plea. The Lincoln County Museum has in its possession approximately 80,000 envelopes of personal pictures/negatives from the Brown-Harano Photography donation to the Museum. Most of the communities in west-central Nebraska are represented. These are graduation pictures, baby pictures, engagement-wedding pictures, WWII Military, family group pictures ... WONDERFUL pictures that most families would cherish. They are pictures ranging from 1939 to 2018.

If you do genealogy you might even find great-grandparents in the stacks. The Museum is in a situation where we must eventually destroy these pictures because we do not have an area large enough to store them indefinitely. These pictures are available for claiming at the Lincoln County Historical Museum, 2403 N Buffalo Bill, North Platte. 308-534-5640.

They can be viewed by individual name on the Museum website lincolncountymuseum.org - link "Brown Harano Photos." To claim them the Museum needs the Box Number, the Envelope Number, and the family name on the envelope. Bring your list or mail your list to the Museum at the above address. We do hope that claimants are moved by a spirit of generosity to leave a donation to the Museum. The Museum is open TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS only - between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for picture distribution any week of the coming winter months. Check the Website for pictures-Come see us soon. Thank you so much!
