William “Bill” Loescher

McCOOK, Neb. — William “Bill” Loescher, age 89, of McCook, passed away Tuesday evening, June 28, 2022, at his home in McCook.

Bill was born in Benkelman, Neb., on Jan. 3, 1933, to William Louis and Martha Mitilda (Mathews) Loescher. He attended school in Stratton, Neb., prior to being drafted in the United States Army. He served his country honorably for two years.

On April 18, 1959, Bill was united in marriage to Sally Ann Rotter at St. James Catholic Church in Trenton, Neb. The couple made McCook their lifetime home where Bill worked at Anderson Ford for 14 years before going to work for Burlington Northern Railroad. He worked for BN as a fireman and as an engineer. He retired in 1997.

Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, and a good game of fast-pitch softball. He also made his own wine which he loved to share with his close friends and family. He was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of McCook as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Loescher.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally Loescher of McCook; children, Peggy Loescher of Lethbridge, Canada, Nancy Loescher of Wichita, Kan.; Todd (Brigitte) Loescher of Newton, Kan., Jill (Marty) Pistulka of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Susan (John) Chrislip of McCook; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Byron (Roberta) Loescher of Stratton; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.  The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m.  A rosary will be recited following the visitation, beginning at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday morning, July 6, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in McCook.  Interment with military honors will follow services in St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery, McCook.

Memorials are suggested to the Heritage Senior Center of McCook for their Meals on Wheels Program or to Community Healthcare and Hospice of McCook in Bill’s name.  Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
