NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Senior Hunter Hansen tied for a Top 10 medal as McCook High’s new varsity golf lineup took sixth at Friday’s 14-team North Platte Invite.

Hansen fired an 86 which matched Gering’s Jack Maser for that final medal spot while only finishing two strokes behind three other placers.

“Hunter was another individual that started the round with some high numbers, but there was a time in this round where he was one under through nine holes,” coach Ben Vetrovsky said about his first tournament leading Bison boys golf. “I know that Hunter is going to become more consistent and his scores will drop.”

All the Bison are aiming at similar improvements in consistency following their 371 team score on Friday.

Senior Jonas Somerville shot 90 to tie for 20th place and freshman Landon Kmoch made a solid high school debut at 92 across River’s Edge Golf Course.

Freshman classmate Reid Loop carded 103 with senior Matthew Nichols totaling 113.

Vetrovsky was pleased about the efforts although those scores are not what the Bison will expect in upcoming events.

“I feel like there were stretches in the round where the Bison golfers were really confident,” he concluded. “We started a little slow and we took some big numbers. However, the longer we went through the round, the scores dropped dramatically.”

McCook’s set to play again today at Heritage Hills where Cambridge will visit for a 4 p.m. dual.
