McCOOK, Neb. — If you’re looking for a unique gift, Nana’s Corner at 213 West C might have what you’re looking for.

With alpaca-lined mittens, freeze-dried candy and steam punk art, Nana’s Corner has a little bit of everything.

The store features high-quality craft items from vendors in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas and “There’s so much talent out there, I wish I had room for all of it,” Marci Cummins said, who opened the store in December.

Cummins, a crafter herself, said she opened the store as a way to offer locally made items year-round instead of waiting for craft shows and because of the wide variety of items available.

There’s a little bit of everything in the store, with vendors rotating items in and out regularly, Cummins said. Special orders are available with most vendors.

Some of the most popular items so far include the freeze-dried Skittles, an interesting taste sensation that kids like and soap cloths, soap that’s sewn inside a felt covering that works great as a gentle exfoliate. After the soap dissolves, the felt covering is discarded.

Local vendors and items currently available include:

- The Yarn Farm: Wool from their sheep and alpacas is spun and dyed on-site to create one-of-a-kind clothing items, such as alpaca-lined mittens, scarves, felted slippers, ear warmers, hats and more. Also offers high quality yarn for sale.

- Jo Jo’s Bees: In addition to local honey, other honey-based items available are honey shampoos, soap bars and lotions, beeswax candles, honey butter bars and lip balm. All items are made with honey from local honey bee hives in Culbertson.

-Steam punk art: Art sculptures are made out of metal pieces and found objects, like silverware, that are welded together.

-Simply Poured: Bath products in a variety of fragrances made by Cummins that include bath bombs, bath steamers and bath “teas.” Soon to be available will be a spritz spray wrinkle reducer for clothing, that’s handy while traveling, at the office or before sending the kids off to school.

- Lil Bit: Distinctive home decor items such as magnets, door hangers, plastic egg cartons and dish towels.

-JLB Welding: Die cut metal signs for interior or exterior walls.

-Hey Crystal Hey: Cutting boards, lazy Susans, wooden utensils. Also sells a specialty gift oven mitt stuffed with a stirring utensil and a mix for brownies, cookies or muffins, for teachers, nurses, doctors or anyone else that deserves a treat.

-Triple C Tee: A variety of tee shirts in colors and sizes.

-Front Porch Designs: High quality wreaths.

-Mac Daddy Spices: Spices that take it up a notch for briskets, burgers, taco seasonings and other meals that need an extra kick.

-Rockin B’s Candy: Bouquet candy arrangements, perfect for Valentine’s Day and birthdays.

-Wagner’s Shirts, Cups and More: Tumblers and coasters, keychains, cup holders, wristlets.

The store also has a “Kid’s Zone” with items priced from 25 cents to $10, including “growing” a dinosaur from an egg, make your own bath balls and a weaving kit to make yarn-knotted bracelets.

Nana’s Corner is open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Cummins also posts specials on Nana’s Corner Facebook page.
