Falcons fly high, Warriors win again in girls' hoops

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — A pair of Hitchcock County Falcons were on fire as senior Lindsey Rippen and sophomore Katie Jarecke both scored 18 during their 54-30 win over Cody-Kilgore Saturday.

The dynamic duo shor 65 percent from two-point range with Rippen making seven of 10.

Freshman Kaiah Johnson stepped outside and sank two three-pointers which matched Jarecke’s team-high total.

Senior Aimee Merrill worked inside for eight points, Jarecke took down eight rebounds and Rippen delivered eight assists.

The Falcons (5-9 record) broke free during a 14-2 third period. Cody-Kilgore slipped to 0-10 this season.

Other area teams delivered big weekend wins:

Arapahoe 61,

Hi-Line 33

ARAPAHOE, Neb. — The Warriors are now 8-5 following their fourth win in five games Friday night.

Junior Emerson Swanson’s 17 points led the latest win, hitting six of her eight field goals.

Sophomore Berkley Warner netted 14 points.

Sophomore Naomi Gutierrez didn’t miss a shot (four for four) while scoring nine points, blocking four Hi-Line shots and securing seven rebounds.

Senior Tracy Roskop and Warner also cleaned those backboards of seven caroms each.

Roskop put seven points through the nets.

Trojans win twice

CAMBRIDGE, Neb. — The Cambridge girls mauled Maxwell, 57-19, on Saturday following a 35-28 triumph at Sutherland Friday evening.

Sophomore Jalen Kent’s 13 points and junor Jacey Kent’s 10 topped a balanced attack against Maxwell.

Jalen shot five-for-five at the foul line while Jacey made five of six.

Sophomore Brylyn Springer added eight points and a team-best seven rebounds. Senior Autumn Deterding scored another seven.

The Trojans (9-5) never allowed more than seven points to Maxwell in one quarter.

On Friday, Cambridge conquered a closer contest thanks to the 15-2 third quarter.

Kent tallied nine points and Paige Klumpe eight as she made all three field-goal tries.

Senior Autumn Deterding delivered seven points and seven rebounds. Klumpe also secured seven boards.

Junior Breelle Miller added a six-point, six-rebound performance.

Holdrege 34,

So. Valley 29

HOLDREGE, Neb. — An 11-0 opening quarter cooled Southern Valley’s momentum Friday night.

The Eagles (8-5) clawed back and actually caught Holdrege at 20-20 through three quarters. Yet those Dusters achieved their finest quarter with 14 points in the fourth.

Sophomore Ann Bose totaled 10 points and seven steals to lead S.V.

Senior Krista Best and Adi Hunt added five points each. Jenna Hunt and Bregan Hammond each scored three.

Arthur County 23

ARTHUR, Neb. — The 15-1 Wolves led 36-7 by halftime Friday night.

Junior Olivia Hansen netted 14 points for the defending RPAC champs. Sophomore Ellie Broz and junior Kiley Hejtmanek tossed in 10 points apiece.

Senior Stevie Handsaker and junior Alexis Wood each netted nine.

Wood dominated with 14 rebounds, eight on the offensive end. The Wolves outrebounded Arthur by 14, 36-22.

Southwest 44,

Bertrand 26

BERTRAND, Neb. — Southwest’s girls showed no travel lag, starting fast at 15-4 and leading 29-5 going into halftime.

Junior Caylin Barnett’s 13 points paced a balanced SW attack as classmate Bailey Truska buried three long-distance bombs while adding 11 points.

Freshman Asia Gallegos hit four of six shots while adding nine points.

Southwest improved to 7-6 this season.

Rawlins 54,

Greeley 48

TRIBUNE, Kan. — The Rawlins County girls are 9-1 after freshman Tayten Dewey’s 17 points led another win Friday.

Freshman Reece Smith powered to 12 points while senior Sradie Sramek and junior Mariyah Nichols both netted seven.

Sophomore Abby Micek secured an amazing 16 rebounds.

Hoxie 41,

Decatur 22

OBERLIN, Kan. — The Decatur Community girls are 4-5 while Hoxie’s Indians improved to 6-3 this season.
