Lopers JV downs MCC in three sets

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College volleyball team dropped a Monday night match to the University of Nebraska-Kearney in straight sets 25-22, 25-18 and 25-22.

“We’re at the end of the season and I feel like we’re still trying to figure things out and learn who each person is on the team and what they can bring to the team,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza.

Sophomore Jordan Jerome (Rawlins, Wyo.) led MCC with six kills, a pair of assist blocks and one solo block, four digs and one ace. Freshman Thaynara Isabela (São Paulo, Brazil) had five kills, nine digs and one assist block.

Makayla Brown (freshman, Colorado Springs) was credited with four kills, and had two assist blocks. Mia Pena (sophomore, Greeley, Colo.) had three kills, two assist blocks and an ace. Sophomore Amerika Jones (Honolulu, Hawaii) had four kills.

“I thought we were good on the block tonight,” Kobza said.

Sophomore Janie Sommer (Maxwell) led MCC with 20 assists with six digs, three kills, one assist block and one ace. McKenna Crews (freshman, Loveland, Colo.) had 15 digs, two assists and two aces. Kaylee Palmieri, (sophomore, Gibbon,) had seven digs.

MCC goes to 19-15 and close out the regular season Wednesday hosting No. 20 Western Nebraska (21-12) at 7 p.m.

“It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish so hopefully we can get that figured out within the next week.” Kobza said.
