Chase, Falcon girls make state; boys fall short

BAYARD, Neb. — Hitchcock County’s Chayse Keith and senior Jordan Jablonski from Chase County have qualified for the Nebraska State Cross Country meet next week.

Keith, a sophomore, placed 13th in Thursday’s D-6 district meet at the Courthouse Jail Rock Golf Course.

The 15 fastest individuals and top three teams advance to Class D state at Kearney Country Club on Friday, Oct. 22.

Hitchcock County’s girls finished ninth among 11 teams with 73 points.

Champion Perkins County (25), Sutherland (31) and Hemingford (41) qualified their teams for state from D-6.

Dundy County-Stratton finished 11th with 114 points. No other individual results were obtained.

Chase County’s Jablonski raced to 11th place in the C-5 district at Crandall Creek Golf Course near Ogallala.

Jablonski recorded a time of 21:00.18 as the Longhorns were sixth overall (102 points).

Sidney (31), Chadron (47) and Broken Bow (55) earned the top three spots which advance their entire lineups to Class C state.

All state races take place one week from today at Kearney Country Club.

Chase County teammates McKenzie Vogt finished 30th (23:01.68) and Caelyn Long was 31st (23:04.56).

Morgan Peterson took 37th place (23:33.61) just ahead of Alma-Southern Valley’s Morgan Scott (38th/23:38.26).

Other leading Saints were freshman Harper Fennell (41st/23:47.56) and Liz Meyers (43rd/24:09.42).

BOYS

No area boys qualified for Nebraska state cross country from the C-5 or D-6 district cross country meets on Thursday.

The D-6 meet featured Hitchcock County placing eighth at Jailrock Golf Course near Bayard.

In the C-5 district at Ogallala, Chase County was 9th while Alma-Southern Valley took 10 among 11 teams.

Alma-S.V.’s Griffin Stemper placed 18th (17:54.45) and Chase County freshman Trevin Moreno took 25th (18:21.84) at C-5.

Junior Blake Devitt led the Hitchcock Falcons in 18th place (19:51.11) at D-6. Junior Landon Tines was 33rd (20:56.71) and Dundy County-Stratton’s Garrett Stamm 34th.
