CULBERTSON, Neb. — David E. Hanes, age 69, of Culbertson, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Community Hospital in McCook, Neb.

David was born Dec. 24, 1951, in Benkelman, Neb., to parents, Alfred Lyle and Frances Maxine (Cemer) Hanes. He was one of five children born to this union. David attended school in Stratton, Neb., where he graduated from Stratton High School with the Class of 1970.

David married Gale (McMichael) Hanes on July 3, 1991, in McCook. The couple were blessed with five children. David was a longtime employee of Parker Hannifin, where he had worked for the last 40 years.

David’s hobbies included hunting and fishing and he was a lifetime member of the NRA. David was a family man who cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He was an excellent cook who loved to grill outdoors for his family and he also enjoyed boating and taking care of his many animals.

David was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; and his sister, Carol Barber.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Gale Hanes of Culbertson; children, Dale (Lisa) Rowe of Hastings, Neb., Travis Hanes of Palisade, Neb., Diana (Darin) Staab of Hays, Kan., Yolanda (Robert) Matson of McCook and Candace Hanes of Lincoln, Neb.; brother, Dewayne (Sandra) Hanes of Broken Bow, Neb.; sisters, Judy Brunk of McCook and Becky Hanes of Greeley, Colo.; as well as his 10 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at a later date.
