DC-S, Eagles sending trio of golfers to state

McCOOK, Neb. — Dundy County-Stratton senior Cheve Lutz and junior Nolan Burrell earned state tournament spots after golfing into the top 10 at Monday’s D-5 district meet.

Burrell fired 90 to make the top five while Lutz shot 95 for ninth overall.

The top three teams and 10 individual golfers qualify for Class D state at North Platte’s Lake Maloney Golf Course starting one week from today.

DC-S took fifth as a team with its 412 total. Lane Brown totaled 112, Brodie Rogers 115 and Mark Nelms 116.

The Tigers were only three strokes behind top three Paxton (409), which joined Hyannis (379) and Creek Valley (397) as D-5 teams qualifying for state during this tourney at Heritage Hills.

Mullen’s Brendon Walker fired a brilliant 74 (37-37) to win the D-5 individual title.

The Hitchcock County Falcons shot 429 overall with top golfers being Ashton Parker-Johnson (101), Trevor Kefalas (107), Darin Neben (110) and Anthony Christofferson (111).

S.V. Eagle to state

BERTRAND, Neb. — Southern Valley senior Colton Burgeson reached Class D state with his 83 for ninth place at Monday’s D-4 district tourney.

Eagle teammate Matt Henderson (87) missed the top 10 qualifers by one stroke, and Southern Valley finished one team spot short in fourth place.

The RPAC champ Eagles totaled 360. North Platte St. Patrick’s (322), Overton (347) and Elm Creek (348) qualified.

Senior Brody Yant shot 89 for S.V. Kellan Cole’s 99 led Medicine Valley while Weston Morrow and Ory Johnson each scored 102 for Maywood-Hayes Center.
