James Patrick Suiter

McCOOK, Neb. — James Patrick Suiter completed his life’s journey on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, with family by his side, at his home in McCook.

He was born April 27, 1930, to his parents, Charles Francis (Frank) Suiter and Mary Magdalene (Ryan) Suiter at home on the farm in rural Red Willow County, Neb. He attended rural school there and also McCook Community College. Upon high school graduation, he worked in McCook as a lab technician until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served in both South and North Korea as a combat infantryman.

Upon returning to civilian life, he met and married Audrey Mary Anderjaska of rural Hayes County, Neb., on Oct. 23, 1954, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayes County. This long and loving marriage was blessed with more than 66 years of memories together. To their union five children were born: Timothy James, Sean Patrick, Brian Thomas, Chad Francis and Angela Marie.

He served the McCook community as the Chamber of Commerce manager and was a regional sales manager for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, until he established his own insurance and investment firm. He was very active in the McCook community serving as councilman, vice mayor, and with many organizations throughout the community in various leadership roles for decades. Jim was a master working with his hands and mind. He was an expert and had great wisdom which allowed him to make, repair or build about anything needed. His life long hobby and passion was woodworking. He lovingly built museum quality hardwood furniture for his children and grandchildren. He received many awards and accolades for his fine craftmanship and was designated by the Nebraska State Fair as an All-Nebraska Artist.

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents; older brother, Francis Suiter; three sisters, Mary Louis Hale, Margret Burns, and Kathleen Sorensen; and grandson, Tyler Joseph Suiter.

Those left to celebrate his life include wife, Audrey Suiter of McCook; children, Timothy James (Connie) Suiter of Omaha, Neb., Sean Patrick (Sarah) Suiter of Omaha, Brian Thomas (Tami) Suiter of Lincoln, Neb., Chad Francis (Julie) Suiter of Johnston, Iowa and Angela Marie (William) Blankenau of Manhattan, Kan.; his brother, Charles John (Mildred) Suiter of Omaha; 12 grandchildren, Colin (Petrina), Kayla (Joey), Ian, Maximillian, Nicole (Tim), Rian (Paige), Daniel (Cassie), Andrew, Elliot, Isaac, Nolan and Liam; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Finn, Lila, Harlow, Tenley, Truman and great-grandson on the way; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 409 East F Street, McCook NE or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN, 38105.

Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7 p.m., on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook with Father Gary Brethour.

Memorial Mass will also be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021, with Father Bernard Lorenz as Celebrant. Private family inurnment with Military Honors will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Indianola, Neb.
