Letter to the Editor

Glad COVID shots available

Tuesday, March 30, 2021

Dear Editor,

Having relatives in McCook and Red Willow county, I was relieved to read the McCook Gazette article: “County health department opens COVID-19 shots to 18 and above” (March 26 issue). This is a welcome relieve to the various phases and stages of prioritization of ‘who’ gets the vaccine ‘when’.  I was fortunate to get my first Moderna shot on January 20th, with my second shot about three weeks later.  In my own individual case, I had a bit of a reaction to the first shot; but, had no reaction to the second. Many people tell me they are the other way around. Although the reaction was a couple days of feeling crummy, alternating some fever, then chills, and recurring fever and sore eyes and headaches -- I still believe it was worth getting the shot for me, since I have underlying health conditions. Each person is free to make their own choice about getting them. I am glad I got both shots. My biggest prayer is that they ‘work’, even partially.

Sincerely,

James A. Marples

Longview, Texas

  • Where do you get the johnson and johnson vacine?

  • Farrell's has apparently been offering the "one-shot" from J&J. But seriously why? There is no factual evidence that the vaccine will even last longer than 6 months. It's also unknown that if you're exposed with having the vaccine, you may get COVID again. Allbethat the effects will be less but still? If you've had COVID, get tested for the antibodies FIRST. Currently, the vaccine isn't any better than already having the antibodies. There's just not enough proof of anything.

Readers: Do NOT listen to Rural Citizen. Do what the Nebraska Governor advises and GET YOUR SHOT. Don't be afraid of nothing and don't be dissuaded by propaganda that only hurts you and those you love.

  • Giving Blood through the American Red Cross automatically tests each time for antibodies. So far, I'm 7 months in from COVID and have strong antibodies. Make you're own choice with regards to the vaccine. But if the antibodies are staying in your system just as long as a vaccine so far and the vaccines may not last long, why subject your body to it? If you have not had COVID, then please get the shot.

  • Propaganda, seriously? I'm not afraid of a thing because I pay attention to facts. Make up your own mind instead of following what 1 person says. It's a matter of choice and looking at all the facts that are out there specifically by the CDC. I choose not to get it yet based on facts and statistics not by "what I'm supposed to do because someone told me to". We all have our own minds of which we have the ability to make our own choices.

Says the robot who simply regurgitates propaganda. Dangerous propaganda that's ending lives.

I know you MUST have the last word since you know you are wrong in many ways, so have it here but remember, you and your opinions are dying out, thankfully.

Enjoy, my friend in the minority!

    :)

  • Please explain to me how I'm quoting propaganda? There is no proof that the vaccine is any better or more efficient that having the antibodies. BTW, I'm not your friend...thankfully. Just a person with a difference of opinion. Living in a country where I thought that was something to be proud of. It's called respect.

  • And BlueWillow, how do you explain 246 Michigan residents who were fully vaccinated and recently contracted COVID and three have died. It's not like these cases were from all over the country to represent a low percentage. These were all in one state.

  • Fact - Moderna Covid vaccine lasting so far 6 months

Personal Fact - Antibodies so far testing 6 months out

Now, why again do we HAVE to get a shot right away if there's NO proof for long term effectiveness?

Readers: Do NOT listen to Rural Citizen. He/she/it is clearly not a medical professional. Listen to the actual experts.

Do what the Nebraska Governor advises and GET YOUR SHOT. Don't be afraid of nothing and don't be dissuaded by ignorance and propaganda that only hurts you and those you love.

  • BlueWillow, talk about a propaganda pusher...

People just make your own decisions based on what you feel, research and what's best for yourself and your family.

BTW, yes I am a well educated, scientific based medical professional and have been on the front lines for years.

Oh, my. That admission changes everything.

As a medical professional, surely you are aware of the Hippocratic Oath. For the readers unfamiliar, here is a link: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/article/hippocratic-oath-today/

In short, Rural Citizen once promised to help, not hurt his/her/its patients. However repeatedly here Rural Citizen has given advice contrary to the Center for Disease Control, the WHO, the experts, including the governor of Nebraska. Instead he/she/it over and over has been recommending that other citizens do NOT get the COVID-19 shot.

Wow. That's not good. That's very bad, actually.

Rural Citizen, what is your name, title and organization where you practice medicine? It's important that you share that information because as a, in your own words, "...well educated, scientific based medical professional and have been on the front lines for years," I am sure your patients (and employer) should know who is spreading propaganda that could result in harm, or worse.

For the sake of your patients, and those reading here, I urge you to cease your harmful rhetoric.

  • I'm NOT giving advise, just a suggestion that people should make an informed decision that best suits themselves and their family. I've never stated that you should NOT get the COVID-19 vaccine. I stated, "Make your own choice with regards to the vaccine."

Whatever you decide to do, that is your decision.

Hey, Rural Citizen (I'll call you Nurse Ratched if that's OK).

    You're suddenly silent.

Quite a change for such a frequently blabbering propagandist here. I wonder why...
