McCook boys make happy return at UNK Invitational

KEARNEY, Neb. — Much like March Madness fans on Friday, the McCook High boys happily witnessed a return of some “normalcy” in their first 2021 outdoor track-field meet.

“It was just nice getting back on the track, runways, aprons and rings to compete,” coach Tom Sughroue proclaimed.

McCook hadn’t competed in any track-field since the dramatic close Class B No. 2 finish at Omaha’s Burke Stadium nearly two years ago.

On Friday, they captured several top four places while challenging Class A along with ‘B’ athletes.

McCook senior Talyn Campbell soared to top three among pole vaulters, while sophomore Adam Dugger triple jumped his all-time best (41’9 1/2”) for third among triple jumpers.

Bison distance runners teamed to take one more top three place in their 3200-meter relay.

Weston Walgren, Patrick Gross, Logan Farr and Landyn Roth rounded the Kearney track in a time of 9:12.69.

McCook’s 400-meter relay finished fourth and more results can be seen today at left.

60-meter hurdles: Ty Stevens, MC, 10.0 (PR); Alec Langan, MC, 10.1 (PR). 300-hurdles: 1. C. Zink, Ogallala, 42.25; 5. Alec Langan, MC, 45.06.

400-relay: 1. North Platte, 43.72; 4. McCook, 45.67 (Mark Arp-Bryce Dutton-Jacob Gomez-Wilson-Lucas Gomez-Wilson). 3200-relay: 1. Millard South, 9:07.45; 3. McCook, 9:12.69 (Weston Walgren-Patrick Gross-Logan Farr-Landyn Roth).

Shot put: 1. G. VanWinkle, Kearney, 53’7”; 5. Torrington Ford, MC, 48’1 1/4”; Dylan Paschall, MC, 37’7 1/2” (PR). Discus: Dylan Paschall, MC, 130’2” (PR).
