Bearcats blaze past Bison hoops teams

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — The Scottsbluff Bearcats buried 13 three-pointers during a 65-34 win over McCook High’s boys Friday afternoon.

McCook (10-12 record) caught the Bearcats at 2-2 on senior Ty Stevens’ shot off the glass.

Yet those feisty Bearcats (11-8) didn’t allow another first-quarter point while building a 15-2 lead.

Junior Cole Cappel scored leading off the second period and Stevens added four more points only to see the margin reach 28-8.

Senior Isaiah Stoddard caught a teammate’s air ball for one more Bison basket in a 34-13 first half.

Evan Humphrey’s triple drew the Bison within 36-20 only to get no closer.

Girls on Friday

McCook’s girls finished the regular season with a tough 59-41 loss at Scottsbluff.

Wilkinson banked in the game’s first shot, but Scottsbluff (16-6) tallied 12 straight points.

Soph Tori Honn hit a three-pointer yet those Bearcats raced on to lead 20-7.

Wilkinson eventually scored 16 points and junior post Sierra Kotschwar put in 10. Honn (six points) and junior Ainsley Taylor (five) teamed for 11.

The Bison slipped to 7-15 overall.
