Eagles, M-HC boys both reach 15 victories

WAUNETA, Neb. — Maywood-Hayes Center’s now 15-8 following a 55-35 road win over the Wauneta-Palisade Broncos Friday evening.

A look at other weekend highlights on basketball courts:

Just like last season, Southern Valley’s boys won an RPAC finals rematch with a 59-46 victory over Dundy County-Stratton at Benkelman Friday evening.

The Eagles (15-4 record) controlled this contest behind senior Clayton Berry’s latest cool 26-point performance.

Their terrific senior trio also featured Brody Yant delivering 12 points and Carter Bose hitting double-double status again (11 points/12 rebounds).

Senior Colton Burgeson really makes it a quartet because he buried two triples for another eight points.

The Eagles controlled this contest after losing a two-point thriller to DC-S in those RPAC finals at Cambridge on Feb. 5.

Freshman Jackson kerchal’s 12 points led the 16-4 Tigers, who’ve dropped two straight following a loss at North Platte St. Patrick’s earlier last week.

Sophomore Alex Englot neetted nine points and twin brother Andrew Englot scored seven for coach Kris Freeland’s Tigers.

Junior Mark Nelms added another six points as the Tigers played without junior state champion quarterback Quade Myers.

No other details were obtained.

In Alma, the Cambridge Trojans regained their winning ways as those boys blasted past host Alma 63-38.

No individual stats were obtained for the 7-14 Trojans.

Arapahoe (7-13) achieved a big win over Cambridge one week ago.

However, the Warriors ventured into a tough Bertrand Vikings foe Friday night.

Bertrand prevailed 33-22 thanks mainly to an 11-1 third quarter.

Junior Tyler Miller tallied 10 points for Arapahoe.

Sophomore Ander Wasenius added seven points but only two other Warriors hit shots.

Senior Reilley Einspahr did pull in eight rebounds with classmate Nolan Meyers corraling six.

In girls’ action, Southern Valley started a rare road sweep of Dundy County-Stratton because those girls prevailed 49-37.

The Eagles — coming off another huge win over RPAC champ Alma — won even DC-S senior McKinzie Baney fired in 19 points.

Arapahoe followed a great win at Cambridge by beating Bertrand, 40-27, on the Vikings’ home court.

Junior Hope Koller tallied 12 points and sophomore Emerson Swanson scored 11.

The real story was dominant Warrior defense, blanking Bertrand 10-0 through an entire second quarter while building their halftim lead to 20-7. Arapahoe improved to 7-15.

Cambridge’s girls (11-12) will try to regain momentum during subdistricts tonight following a 53-34 loss at those Alma Cardinals Friday evening.

Sophomore Paige Klumpe continued her sharp late-season shooting, hitting four of seven shots for eight points.

Teammate Carsyn Hanes also reached eight points and soph Breelle Miller added seven.

Juniors Schyler Hobarty and Autumn Deterding were limited to two points each.

They’ll aim for more success tonight against rival Southwest in the D-11 subdistrict semis.
