Letter to the Editor

Time to censure Sen. 'Benedict Arnold' Sasse

Friday, February 5, 2021

Dear Editor,

Congratulations to the Hitchcock County GOP (Republican Party) for planning an emergency meeting Saturday, Feb. 6, 2 p.m. to consider a resolution of censure against Sen. Ben Sasse for his vote to have an impeachment of Pres. Trump. Don’t think about it, just do it and get 100s of Republican signatures that are registered and live in the state G.O.P. Central Committee District No. 315. This includes Red Willow County. Call Bruce C. Desautels of Stratton, Neb., for more information or read plans in the Gazette, page 2, Friday, Jan. 29, 2021.

I sent my letter directly to the modern-day Benedict Arnold, Ben Sasse. But one signature doesn’t carry much clout!

Looking back many years, 1948 to be exact, I was 18 years old and on my honeymoon to Detroit, Mich. We were to pick up a new car and then head back to Nebraska. My new brother-in-law, Dr. Redfern, took us for a tour of the city. I remember seeing so many buildings looking a bit oriental? So he explained that the Chinese had been investing quite heavily in properties in the city. So we drove by these investments, mostly banks, schools, construction temples or churches, etc.

As we drove by a bank, I voiced my thoughts, “I was glad my year’s teaching money was in my 100-year-old bank in Bartley, Neb., safe and sound!

Everyone gave a little chuckle, as it wasn’t a very big account, but it was safe in an American, old, and tried institution. This was 1948, remember.

So how much of our good old U.S. of A. does China own in 2021?

I’m hoping Nebraska voters will let Ben Sasse know he will be short of votes the next time he runs for Senate.

Pat Redfern,

McCook, Neb.

  • Benedict Donald will hopefully receive his just due if not in his lifetime. Then hopefully the Good Lord will judge him properly. My thought for the here and now is to have January 6 declared National Donald J.Trump Insurrection Day as an annual reminder of the heroes that defended our Capital that day and saved our democracy in doing so. The HONORABLE Senator Sasse should be commended NOW for his willingness to speak truth and stand for the good principles that he has to know are going to hurt him come next Election Day. He has shown fortitude in the face of adversity that I believe his constituents should take great pride in.

    Translation:

I am durn angry that Senator Sasse tried to keep to his conservative values to the point he stood firm against an enemy of the state that I forgot what I was ranting about and suddenly my monologue was about Detroit and then jarringly "oriental" places but yeah, back to Sasse. Boo!

  • If you are a fascist who supports the fascist trump then you would likely consider Sasse a Benedict Arnold. However, if you are truly a patriotic citizen of the United States and believe in the Constitution and our republic you can only view Sasse as an honest, decent, truly patriotic Senator. The inaccuracies of the columnist makes a person with common sense wonder why the Gazette publishes the fascist propaganda.
