Clerk’s office warns of social media misinformation

McCOOK, Neb. -- The Red Willow County Clerk’s office is warning voters about misinformation being spread on social media regarding counting of provisional ballots.

The following statement was issued today:

“Please be careful what you believe and spread on social media.

“The voter check website is only for voters who may or may not have been eligible to vote in this county. Therefore, they are called provisional ballots.

“The website is the only way for those voters to see if their vote was counted. People voting at the polls, in the clerk’s office or by mail can be assured that their ballot counted if it was properly initialed by the poll workers and placed in the ballot box.

“Over 5,000 ballots were counted in Red Willow County, which is a record turnout of over 76%.

“The Red Willow County Clerk’s office’s job is to count each and every ballot, not to hinder the democratic system that our forefathers fought and died to give us.”
