McCOOK, Neb. -- The McCook Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a subject who led officers on a high-speed chase, crashed his car and escaped on foot.

According to a release from the McCook Police Department:

“On Oct. 1, 2020, at 2:26 pm, an officer with the McCook Police Department attempted to stop a silver 2-door vehicle with no license plates for a traffic violation near West 4th and D Streets in McCook.

“As the officer activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the driver fled from the McCook Police Officer.

“A pursuit followed which exited the McCook City Limits on West 3rd Street and travelled north of McCook on County Road 385 for approximately 8 miles before the vehicle turned east onto a private road and crashed. Once the vehicle crashed, the driver exited the scene and fled on foot.

“Officers attempted to set up a perimeter and a search for the subject occurred that included officers from the McCook Police Department, Red Willow County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol. The Nebraska State Patrol’s air wing and K-9 units were deployed to search for the subject.

“Officers ultimately were unable to locate the subject and the investigation into his identity continues. The McCook Police Department would encourage anybody with information in this case to please call the McCook Police Department.”

  • What is McCook Police Department's Pursuit Policy!!?

How can any SANE officer do high speed chase through residential streets, and past a school at 2:30 in the afternoon? Started at "D" Street went North through all residential area for a license plate violation.

I a former 22 year street officer and I would have broken off Pursuit.

  • With 22 years as a street officer you should know that you shouldn't assume you know all the facts and answers based on what you read in te article.

  • DouglasB75, it is your ASSUMPTION that, because this pursuit "exited the McCook City Limits on West 3rd Street" that it went by McCook Elementary School. West 3rd runs from A street north for several miles. Where in the article does it actually state the pursuit went past a school? Where in the article does it state it was a "high speed chase" that you refer to? As I said, if you are truly a 22 year veteran as a street officer, you should know that you should not assume. Sounds to me that you are assuming many things based on the limited information in the article. I think we all know what happens when we assume something.
