Council to consider covering rental fees

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook City Council will take up only one regular agenda item Monday, the use of Community Betterment Funds to cover rental fees for the annual Toy Box event at Memorial Auditorium.

The council is expected to approve the request, as it did last year. Community Betterment funds are derived from Keno sales in the city.

The meeting will begin with two proclamations, designating Oct. 4-10 as “Fire Prevention Week” and designating the month of October 2020 as “Manufacturing Month.”

Consent agenda items, that can be approved in one motion unless pulled by a council person, city staff or member of the public for a separate vote, are:

-Award of bid and approve the purchase of three three new ambulance Power Load Systems and Cots (Stretchers) to STRYKER who submitted the lowest responsible bid of $140,740.82.

-Approve the application for a Special Designated Liquor License submitted by MO Dough, LLC, for a wedding reception at the Red Willow County Fair Grounds Community Building on Oct. 24, 2020 from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.

-Approve the application for a Special Designated Liquor License submitted by Citta’ Deli, for the Farrell’s Sip ‘n Shop event at Farrell’s Hallmark Shop on Oct. 30, 2020 from 2 to 9 p.m.

-Ratify the Mayor’s appointments to the Airport Advisory Commission - reappoint David Pfeffer, Trevor Taylor, and Griff Malleck - terms expire November 2023; the Building and Housing Code Advisory and Appeals Board - reappoint Paul Goodenberger - term expires September 2024 and appoint Brett Schmidt to replace Gary Wiemers and Jon Stewart to replace Steve Lyne - terms expire September 2024; the Economic Development Plan Citizen’s Advisory Review Committee - reappoint Jeanette Peters - term expires July 2023; the Housing Agency - reappoint Raymond Long - term expires November 2025; and the Senior Citizens Advisory Board - reappoint Jim Hamill - term expires September 2022.

-Receive and file the Financial Report for the period ending August 31, 2020.

-Approve the request from Josh and Lynda Redden, owners of “The Hub,” to close the 200 Block of West First Street on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020 from 6 to 10 p.m., for a Community Celebration Commemorating their one year anniversary in McCook.

-Approve the application for a Special Designated Liquor License submitted by Citta’ Deli for the Hub Block Party event at The Hub, 220 West 1st Street, on Oc. 29, 2020 from 2 to 11 p.m.

  • I thought the city owned the Memorial building. if thats the case,the city is paying the city to use it? I guess that's one way of moving keno funds.
