Alex Trebek: A beloved, respected public figure

Tuesday, July 21, 2020

Dear Editor,

Since 1984 I have been a loyal fan of Alex Trebek and Jeopardy. When I visited my parents in Denver we always watched his show. It was educational as well as entertaining.

Last year, when he was disgnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer I was shocked. A long time friend of mine from my days as a student at East Denver High School and the University of Denver had pancreatic cancer and passed away from it.

In the case of Alex Trebek, the social media was flooded with messages of support. The studios of Jeopardy got boxes of cards, encouraging letters and prayers offered by his fans.

I have done some research on pancreatic cancer. Fact that I have uncovered state that it is a death sentence.

Memories of legendary players like Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer competing against a computer are treasured by his fans.

Recently, I have been watching reruns of his show on NBC. I mentioned to a good friend of mine that i wondered if Alex Trebek was still alive.

She discovered that he is still living. In fact, he is in the process of writing a book. He was inspired by all the good will of his fans and friends.

Alex said that he wanted people to know a little more about the person that they have been cheering on and encouraging for the past year.

So Trebek is writing “The Answer Is: Reflections on My Life.”

This book includes a range of topics like personal anecdotes, his marriage, children, education, spirituality, success and philanthropy.

He answers questions like what prompted him to shave off his signature mustache. Each chapter in his book has the title of a question.

There are also special photos. Trebek is a beloved respected figure in entertainment.
