School offering free meals to children in households with at least one MPS student

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

McCOOK, Neb. — Starting today, McCook Public Schools will serve free meals to all children age 18 and under in the household, if at least one child attends McCook Public Schools.

All children are eligible, not only for those who qualify for free lunches.

This is in response to school closings due to the coronavirus pandemic. A waiver has been granted by the United States Department of Agriculture providing additional flexibilities based on the exceptional circumstances relating to the declaration of a public health emergency due to COVID-19.

Free meals will be available during the school days when school is closed due to this health emergency.

To receive free meals during the emergency, McCook Public Schools ask that parents contact the school where your student attends by 9 a.m. on Tuesday March 17, and request your meals. To reserve a meal, call (308) 345-5422 for the school buildings in the district. This request will reserve meals for your student for the remainder of the week and allow the district to prepare the proper number of meals. Each student will receive a breakfast and a lunch meal each day. Adult meals may be purchased as usual.

Meals may be picked up at the Junior High School between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day of the school closure. This will be a drive-through grab-n-go meal in a bag. Staff members will be on hand to assist and direct traffic.
