MCC split pair with Rattlers on diamond

La JUNTA, Colo. – The McCook Community College softball team split a pair of games with Otero Junior College Saturday losing the first game 8-0 and winning the second game 10-1.

The Rattlers’ offense struck for runs in every inning in Game 1, finishing the game off in five innings with a three-run fifth inning.

It took until the third inning Game 2 for the Lady Indians offense to tally some runs getting three in the third, two more in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to back the pitching of sophomore Karleigh Kleinknecht, (Cozad/Gothenburg High School) who went the distance for the win.

For the second day in a row ,freshmen Kristen Mogan swung the home run bat with a solo dinger in the sixth inning.

Otero goes to 10-3 on the season and 1-1 in Region IX south play.

The Lady Indians go to 6-12 on the season and 1-3 in the region.

MCC has six home games this week starting Tuesday as the Lady Indians host Midland College (Texas) in a doubleheader at the Jaycees Sports Complex starting at noon.

GAME 1 – Otero Junior College 8, McCook CC 0: The Rattlers scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings before ending the game with three runs on the eight-run rule .MCC was out-hit 9-6. Freshmen Kaitlyn Lord, (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Kassandra Orr, (Victoria, British Columbia) both had doubles in the losing effort.

Freshman Anna Wilcox, (Victoria, British Columbia) went 4.1 innings, allowing nine hits and seven earned runs. She walked five and struck out four.

GAME 2 – McCook CC 10, Otero Junior College 1: The Lady Indians were held scoreless until the third inning when Lord singled home freshman Sidney Sansregret, (Surrey, British Columbia) who led off the inning with a single. Sophomore Jade Hollands (Effingham, Kan.) singled home Lord and a bases loaded walk with freshman Camryn Laird, (Pueblo, Colo.) at the plate made it a 3-0 game.

A two-out, two-run single by Hollands in the fourth gave MCC a 5-0 lead before Otero scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.

Kleinknecht had an RBI-double in the fifth inning and a Rattler error led to two more runs giving the Lady Indians an 8-1 lead.

Mogan smoked a solo homerun to center field in the sixth.
