Tough Plainswomen cool down Indians
STERLING, Colo. -- The McCook Community College volleyball team dropped three sets to Northeastern Junior College Saturday.
The Plainswomen won all three sets 25-17 – one night after ending 16th-ranked Western Nebraska’s 13-game winning streak.
For MCC, freshman Fernanda Canedo, (Cochabamba, Boliva) had nine kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore Bailey Honn (McCook) had six kills, freshman Mackenzie Anderson (Ogallala) had four kills and freshman Kallie Cathcart (Holly, Colo.) had four kills and three assist blocks.
Sophomore Kiera Barr (Granby, Colo.) had 17 digs.
Freshmen setter Madison Mendoza (Ogallala) had seven digs and nine assists. Freshman setter Heiata Tauota, (Nantes, France) had 13 assists.
MCC goes to 21-10 on the season and 5-4 in the Region IX south standings.
Northeastern improves to 19-8 and 5-3 in the sub-region.
The Lady Indians close out the south sub-region schedule Thursday traveling to Scottsbluff to take on Western Nebraska (24-6, 7-1 in sub-region play). MCC will travel out of conference Saturday for the final regular-season game Saturday at Concordia, Kan. against Cloud County Community College.
Northeastern Junior College will host this year’s Region Tournament which begins Nov. 7.
