100th birthday

The family of Andrew Meyerle of Lincoln, Neb., formerly of McCook, Neb., is hosting a reception in honor of his 100th birthday. He was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Elk City, Neb. Following his service in World War II, he earned a degree in pharmacy at the University of Nebraska. In 1950, he and his wife, Helen, moved to McCook, where Andy joined the staff at A&M Rexall Drug. In 1960, he opened his own business under the name Meyerle Pharmacy on West 10th. From 1969-1971, he lived in Colby, Kan., where he assisted longtime friend, Paul Pflasterer, in the operation of his pharmacy. After returning to McCook in 1971, he and Ron Stuhmer became partners at A&M Drug. Following his retirement, Andy served others as a relief pharmacist throughout western Nebraska and Kansas and at the Mayo Clinic Pharmacy in Rochester, Minn. Andy was an acolyte at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and a decades-long member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the McCook School Board and the board of Hillcrest Nursing Home. He moved to Brookdale Senior Living until December 2018, when he relocated to Savannah Pines Retirement in Lincoln, where he remains an active member of the community. The reception is Wednesday, Oct. 2, 3-4:30 p.m., at the Savannah Pines Retirement Community, 3900 Pine Lake Road in Lincoln. His family includes wife, Christine Meyerle, of Rye, N.H.; daughters, Kathy Meyerle, of Rochester and Elaine Shannon of Manhattan, Kan.; son, Greg Meyerle of Lincoln; 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandsons.
