Bison softball team scores first two wins

HOLDREGE, Neb. — The McCook High Bison softball team defeated Minden 22-0 on Saturday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout for their first win this season at Saturday’s Holdrege Invitational.

Brooke Evans induced a groundout from Bailee Schurmann to finish off the game.

Emma Kehler was credited with the victory for McCook Lady Bison Varsity. She surrendered zero runs on one hit over two innings, striking out six and walking zero. Evans threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Kaylin Martin led McCook Lady Bison Varsity to victory by driving in four runs. She went 3-for-3 at the plate. Martin drove in runs on a home run in the first, a single in the first, and a single in the second.

Bria Rodgers took the loss for Minden. She allowed 16 hits and 22 runs over three innings.

McCook Lady Bison Varsity launched one home run on the day with Martin going deep in the first inning.

Theyracked up 16 hits. Martin, Kori Uerling, Laurel Schmidt, Kehler, and Ashley Miller all managed multiple hits for McCook Lady Bison Varsity. Schmidt, Uerling, and Martin each collected three hits to lead McCook.

Bison 12,

Blue Hill 6

Blue Hill scored four runs in the first inning, but McCook Bison still won 12-6 to reach the Holdrege Invite title game.

McCook collected 13 hits and Blue Hill had three.

Junior Brolin Morgan hit her first home run of the season.

Savannah Donovan doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

McCook pulled away for good with three runs in the fourth inning.

Emma Kehler singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

McCook scored five runs in the fifth inning. Laurel Schmidt, Candace Coleman, and Brolin Morgan all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Kori Uerling took the win for McCook Lady Bison Varsity. She lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out six.

McCook tallied 13 hits. Schmidt, Donovan, Kehler, and Coleman all collected multiple hits for McCook Lady Bison Varsity. Donovan and Schmidt each collected three hits to lead McCook.

Adams Central 8,

McCook Lady Bison Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 8-3 loss to Adams Central in Saturday’s Holdrege Invite title game.

Adams Central took the lead on a single in the first inning.

Kehler took the loss for McCook Lady Bison Varsity. She surrendered eight runs on 12 hits over six innings, striking out two.

Savannah Donovan, Laurel Schmidt, Ashley Miller, and Candace Coleman each managed one hit to lead McCook.

The Bison (2-6 record) plan on continuing their improvement with a home game against Cozad Tuesday evening.

Varsity first pitch is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. in the McCook Jaycees Complex.
