McCOOK, Neb. — Karen Janice Hartman, age 77, of McCook, passed away at CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Neb., on June 22, 2018.

She was born in Imperial, Neb., on Oct. 7, 1940, to Winfield Everett and June Maurine (Nesmith) Skelton. Karen attended and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1958. She attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year.

On Oct. 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Gary Dean Nordhausen. To this union three children were born: Wendi, Mindi and Nate. Gary preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 1987. She moved to McCook in 1990. Karen married Ken Hartman on June 19,1995. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 2002.

Gary and Karen raised their three kids on the farm south of Wauneta, Neb. She worked on the farm and was a business woman, owning The Stitching Post in Wauneta and later, Home Collections in McCook. Karen and Ken enjoyed antiquing, taking trips on all the back roads. She designed several cross-stich pattern books. She enjoyed quilting, cross-stitching, reading, gardening, playing bridge and following her grandkids' sporting events. Above all, Karen loved being around family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Gary and Ken; and brother, Jerry Skelton.

Karen is survived by her two daughters, Wendi and husband, Randy Goodenberger of McCook; Mindi and husband, Greg Bauer of Culbertson, Neb.; son, Nate and wife, Wendi Nordhausen of Wauneta; two step-daughters, Sue Hartman and Barb and husband, Dan Berkevich; eight grandchildren, Maddie Elder, Kaity Elder and friend, Jake, Grant and wife, Amanda Dixon, Taylor and wife, Gretchen Dixon, Blair and husband, Matt Gohl, Brooklyn Nordhausen and fiancé, Tristan, Hannah Nordhausen and Brody Nordhausen; six step-grandchildren, Dalton and Alexis Goodenberger, Todd and wife, Alyssa Bauer, Kayla and fiancé, Cody, Tanner and Kori Bauer, Jessica and Jenna Berkevich and Jordan and Taylor Cefalo; three great-grandchildren, Jase and Kenna Dixon and Reese Gohl: three step great-grandchildren, Noah, Aiden and Adley Bauer; brother, Gene and wife, Darby Skelton of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Trudy Skelton of Surprise, Ariz.; along many other nieces, nephews and host of friends.

Memorial services will be at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook on Friday, June 29, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Kelly officiating. A private family inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
