BROKEN BOW, Neb. — McCook National Bank’s Seniors were literally twice as good as Broken Bow everywhere it mattered Thursday evening.

The Seniors outscored Bow, 8-4, doubled their hits 8-4 and even turned two double plays to erase any hopes Bow had about evening last week’s 13-7 opening defeat.

McCook (5-1 record) even dominated despite eight walks from starting pitcher DJ Gross, mainly because he only permitted three singles through 5 2/3 innings on the hill.

Plus the MNB batters patiently drew nine walks.

Free passes loaded the bases in McCook’s second inning as Seth Dugger, Logan Greenlee and James Mockry all strolled into one big threat.

Cameryn Berry’s sac fly gave McCook a 1-0 lead without needing one hit. Make it 2-0 when Greenlee dashed home on a Bow wild pitch.

The Seniors would deliver big hits like Dugger’s third-inning single that scored Kaleb Taylor and Derek Greenlee.

Dugger would drive home another run to give him five RBIs this week.

Remember, his two-out/two-run single helped break open a 6-3 MNB victory over Cozad at the Jaycees Complex.

Berry’s two-out hit sent Dugger home for McCook’s 5-0 advantage.

Broken Bow nearly rallied during that same third inning. The hosts scored two runs and loaded those bases again.

However, the next ground ball turned into a 6-4-3 double play for shortstop Clayton Stevens, second baseman Spencer Krysl and first baseman Dugger.

Krysl’s single started another two-run MNB inning for a 7-2 lead.

Bow closed within 7-4 again, but Logan Greenlee’s triple and a James Mockry base hit finished the Seniors’ Custer County party.

McCook moves on to this weekend’s North Platte Tournament.
