League leaders complete sweep of MCC

McCOOK, Neb. — Trinidad State downed the McCook Community College baseball team 16-7 Friday to sweep a three-game set at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

The Trojans banged out 16 hits. After MCC closed the score to 8-7 in the fifth inning, Trinidad State applied the pressure on the Indians defense, scoring three unearned runs in the sixth, two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth inning. MCC committed five errors in the game leading to nine unearned runs.

Ryan Marstiller (Denver) went 5.1 innings allowing four earned runs and 10 hits. He walked one and struck out six. Tyler Cox (Mississauga, Ontario) pitched 2.2 innings of relief giving up six hits, three walks and four earned runs.

Kaden Sitzman (McCook) finished the game on the mound getting the last three outs with a walk and two strikeouts.

The Indians were able to accumulate 13 hits on the day. Jason Hill (Surrey, B.C.) had three hits in four at bats with a couple runs scored.

Jacob Sanford (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) went three-for-five with two singles and a three-run double.

Michael Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) was two-for-five with an RBI and Parker Kretzel (Thornton, Colo.) was two-for-four with two RBIs. Chris Bellemare (Grande-Carriere, Quebec) had a double and Beau Hawley Greeley, Colo.) had a two-out RBI-single in the fifth. to bring the Indians within a run at 8-7.

Trinidad improves to 27-7 on the season and 12-2 in league play.

MCC is now 10-20 on the year and 5-8 in Empire League play. The Indians continue the homestand Tuesday a 3 p.m. vs. Garden City.
