Chamber board cuts membership, adds advisory committee

McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors will have two fewer members, following action by the board.

Two ex-officio seats will be eliminated, dropping the number on the board from 15 to 13.

Each ex-officio member, coming from various organizations throughout the community on a rotating basis, will serve a one-year term.

At the same time, the chamber set up an advisory committee, with members not having voting rights but providing input.

Second quarter honor business will be First Central Bank. According to Chamber Executive Director Jamie Mockry, the bank was chosen because of their commitment to the community and because of their strong backing of the chamber.

In addition, the chamber has begun the preliminary discussions for setting a strategic plan.

While the formal planning meeting will probably not occur until July, Mockry wants the chamber board and members to begin the process of identifying “what the next five or ten years will look like for the chamber.”

Mockry also reported that the chamber has been extremely busy planning many upcoming community events. We Are Messengers Christian rock concert will be April 15; Brides on the Bricks will be May 5; Bike Ride Across Nebraska will be in McCook June 4 and 5; Crazy Days will be July 12-14.

In addition, planning has already begun for the Heritage Days celebration this fall.
