McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College Indian baseball team downed Lamar Community College Saturday 10-5 to sweep the Lopes in the three-game series at the Jaycees Sports Complex.

The Indians scored three runs in the first, fifth and eighth innings to make a winner of starting pitcher Ryan Marstiller, sophomore (Centennial, Colo.) who went six innings, allowed three earned runs, eight hits and struck out three.

In the first inning, Jake Sanford delivered an RBI single, and Mike Sookedo hit a two-out home run to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.

Lamar scored single runs in the second, third and fifth inning to tie the game 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, after a Tanner Zeggil single and a Lamar error, MCC came up with three two-out runs. Dalton Bartling’s pop fly single to right scored two and Sookdeo doubled Bartling home to give the Indians the lead for good, 6-3.

After Lamar cut it to 6-4 in the sixth inning, MCC got the run back in the bottom of the inning thanks to four walks and a Zeggil single.

Lamar scored a run in the seventh off Marstiller, who was relieved by Tyler Cox.

MCC put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Dylan White singled to lead off the inning, then MCC used “small ball” to put pressure on the Lamar defense. Following an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt, a fielder’s choice yielded no outs.

After a force play at the plate, a Jacob Reid single made it 8-5.

A passed ball led to another run and a bases-loaded walk with Bartling at the plate made it 10-5.

Cox (Mississauga, Ontario) picked up the three-inning save, allowing two hits and no runs. He struck out one hitter.

MCC had 10 hits on the afternoon led by Sookdeo (Brampton, Ontario) who went three-for-five with three RBIs. Bartling (Ashland, Neb.) drove home three. Zeggil (Stagner, Ontario) and Sanford (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) each had two hits, White (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Reid (Mississauga, Ontario) both had singles.

Lamar falls to 8-10 and 2-5 in the Empire League standings.

MCC is 6-9 on the season and 3-3 in Empire League play.
