PLATTEVILLE, Colo. — Alvin Duane Williams, 85, passed away at his home in Platteville on Feb. 6, 2018.

He was born Feb. 27, 1932, in Benkelman, Neb., to Cecil Alvin and Doris Evelyn (Mathews) Williams. Growing up, Duane lived in Benkelman and Haviland, Kan.

On Feb. 1, 1951, he married Betty B. Lavell at her parent’s farm in Kansas. To this union five children were born, Rhonda, Ronald, Nancy, Deborah, and Byron.

Duane and Betty originally moved to Colorado in 1955, returned to Benkelman in 1975, moving to Longmont, Colo., in 1986 and finally to Berthoud in 1996.

Duane’s working career was primarily as plant supervisor for Ralston Purina in Denver, and facility maintenance manager at the Peaks Care Center and the Raintree Plaza Hotel in Longmont. During his return to Benkelman, Duane was a delivery driver for Caldwell’s Propane and Fertilizer.

He gave his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Friend’s Church in Benkelman, in September of 1981. His testament was a blessing to all who knew him and touched many lives.

Duane enjoyed golf, fishing and camping. Most of all, Duane loved and cherished his family. He enjoyed the family getting together playing cards and games during the holidays. He especially looked forward to the family reunions, being able to golf and reminisce with his cousins and their families. Recently he enjoyed being part of the family of Celebrate Recovery at Life Bridge Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; children, Nancy O’Brien, Rhonda Bates and Ronald Williams; grandchildren, Kevin Williams and Christine Brown; and a sister, Nancy Williams.

Duane is survived by daughter, Deborah Brigham and son, Byron Williams; daughter-in-law, Patti Williams; son-in-law, Jack Bates; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Brozek; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services were today, Feb. 12, 2018, at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Berthoud, Colo. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences
