Wells Fargo to close McCook branch

McCOOK, Neb. — Wells Fargo will be closing its McCook branch at noon March 28, according to a company spokesperson.

“Until then, customers can use the branch and bank with us as they always have,” said Staci Schiller, vice president, communications manager of Midwest Regional Banking.

“This is not an easy decision or one that we take lightly,” she said. “We continually evaluate our branch network and make adjustments based on customer actions. This process leads to both expansion and closures.

“While branches continue to be important in serving our customers’ needs, we’re finding that customers are often using our wide range of digital capabilities for many of their banking needs. As a result, more transactions are happening outside the branch,” she said.

The building at West First and D in McCook will be sold, she said, but an ATM will remain in place to serve local customers.

The building formerly housed First National Bank, and upper floors are used by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. No information was immediately available about how the sale might affect those offices.
