NSAA releases 2018 and 2019 football classifications

Thursday, December 14, 2017

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) released football classifications for the 2018 and 2019 seasons on Monday.

The announcement came 11 days after NSAA-member schools were required to declare their participation in 11-man, 8-man or 6-man football on Nov. 30.

The biggest change to the 2018/2019 classification cycle was the switch to using boys-only enrollment. Most recently, schools were classified using total student enrollment in grades 9, 10 and 11.

8-man eligibility required a boy count of 47 or fewer; 6-man eligibility required a boy count of 27 or fewer. Schools could elect to ‘drop down’ to a lower classification, but would be ineligible for the playoffs unless they were within a one-class waiver period.

District assignments are expected to be revealed later this week.
