HOLDREGE, Neb. — A Dundy County suspect was taken into custody after spike strips were used to stop his vehicle in Holdrege after a high-speed chase starting in McCook.

At about 3 a.m. Sunday, the Dundy County Sheriff’s Office issued a BOLO “be on the lookout for” alert for an unidentified Hispanic male, possibly armed, driving a white 2009 Chevrolet Impala with 79 county plates. He was wanted in connection with an assault in Dundy County.

McCook officers spotted the vehicle about 3:07 a.m., attempted to make a traffic stop and pursued when the driver refused to stop.

McCook officers pursued at speeds of over 80 mph eastbound on U.S. 6-34, and a Red Willow County Sheriff’s Deputy joined the pursuit, eastbound through several counties.

Officers from Furnas and Phelps counties, Holdrege Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol joined in the chase.

The State Patrol deployed spike strips in Holdrege and the vehicle was stopped at 4:07 a.m. in Holdrege.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was lodged in the Phelps County Jail. Charges are pending in several jurisdictions, including McCook.
