Freedom Run sees record turnout
CULBERTSON, Neb. – Nearly perfect weather enticed a record number of people to sign-up at the last minute for the Freedom Run 5K/10K in Culbertson on Tuesday.
As one of many events in Culbertson’s Fourth of July celebration, 123 runners and walkers participated in the 15th annual road race Tuesday morning, sponsored by Community Hospital.
Culbertson resident and McCook High School track/cross country runner Isaac Hegwood was the overall 5K winner with a time of 19:45. Lindsey Foster was the top 5K female in a time of 22:54.
In the 10K race, David Junker posted a time of 41:15 with Staci Blomstedt claiming the honor of overall top 10K woman in 48:26.
Top finishers are listed below and a complete list of results from the 2017 Freedom Run are available on the Republican River Fitness Series website, along with series standings.
The Freedom Run was the sixth of 12 events in the fitness series. Participants are automatically part of the fitness series when they participate in an RRFS event. To qualify for the end of the year awards, runners and walkers must either participated in nine of the 12 events or place in the top five in their age division.
The Republican River Fitness Series is a collaboration between Community Hospital and McCook YMCA, along with support from McCook National Bank, Brown’s Shoe Fit and Acme Printing.
Next up on the fitness series calendar is the Color Run, hosted by the McCook Chamber’s Young Professional’s Group. The YPG Color Run is Saturday, July 22, starting at 7:30 a.m. in Kelley Park.
Registration forms are available at the YMCA and businesses around the area, as well as online registration at www.republicanriverfitnessseries.com.
