BUFFALO, N.Y. — There were only seven Iowa Lakes Community College swimmers entering the massive National Junior College Athletic Association national meet recently.

Yet with Oberlin Red Devil alum Keagan Blau swimming like a Tasmanian devil, the Lakers earned their spot as a top five national finishing team.

Blau was part of two relays that swam to No. 3 in the nation, while he earned his own fourth-place finish among 50-meter butterfliers.

Several other super efforts from teammates like NJCAA national champion Hylton Collinson helped Iowa Eagles take that top five national team spot.

Iowa Lakes totaled 365 points to finish just behind South Georgia State College with 450.

The powerful Indian River State College team more than doubled every other national-qualifying men’s team as they totaled 1,293 points.

Their women also took home the national team tite with 1,210 points.

Blau and his Laker swim mates still never backed down.

On the national meet’s first night, their 200-meter freestyle relay of Blau, Collinson, Marko Dominovic and Jakub Murici finished just short of a school record while earning their No. 3 finish.

The same four Lakers dove into a 400-medley relay one night later and placed third again.

Blau had to wait until the meet’s fourth and final night for his next big event.

Yet he was ready with that fourth-place finish in the 50-meter butterfly.

Together, the Lakers finished a season where they broke 24 school records and delivered four other All-American performances besides Blau. Complete national swim results can be found on njcaa.com.
