Letter to the Editor

A new Nero?

Tuesday, February 14, 2017

Dear Editor,

President Donald Trump is receiving opposition to the candidacy of Betsy DeVos, a wealthy GOP donor who promotes charter schools and private schools.

She never attended public school herself and did not send her children to a public school.

It is not surprising that there is so much opposition to her being confirmed education secretary. Obviously we need someone as the education secretary who is knowledgeable and sees all sides of our country's educational challenges.

I am equally concerned about his choice of Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State.

Vladimir Putin is not to be trusted. His czar-like approach to international relations is obvious. John Bolton, Ambassador to the U.N., Mitt Romney a presidential candidate and Bill O'Reilly of the Fox News Channel all classify him as a thug and a killer.

Trump has stated that Rex Tillerson has a close association with Putin as an oil executive.

In 2009, Putin shut off gas to Ukraine in the middle of winter.

We need to evaluate Putin as a power-hungry leader similar to Nero who killed Peter and Paul in Rome in 64-65 A.D.
