Classic jam
How many days do I drive around and patiently sit and endure the girls music they blare in my truck? They're always pluggin in their phones and blast some new hip hop song that I've never heard of, practically blowing my speakers and for certain rattling my eardrums. I always let them dance around and flail their heads back and forth, enjoying the boomin' tunes.
Sometimes I nod my head along with them and whether I really like the song or not, I always say I like it when they ask if I do.
Tonight my 14 year old said something in conversation that reminded me of a verse from one of my old college jams so I told I had a song for her to listen to.
So when we left the house, I plugged in my phone and told her to prepare herself to listen to one of the coolest '90s hip hop songs ever! I pressed play and waited in anticipation for her to start dancing along with me or turn it up. I waited and waited as my old tune continued with the catchy beat.
I sang along to all the words (how I remembered them after 20+ years, I have no idea) recollecting my fun and single days as a young college kid with each verse.
As I rapped along out loud to the song, I kept glancing at her, expecting her eyes to light up and her head to start bopping along with me but nothing! Halfway through the song she just stared at me like I was some gross looking animal at the zoo.
She laughed a few times when I nailed the chorus part but it wasn't an impressed laugh but a "you're an idiot" laugh. When she wasn't staring at me in disgust, she was on her phone, I assumed telling her friend how stupid her mom's old songs are but at least she wasn't videotaping me, at least I hope she didn't.
Anyway, as the song was almost over, she begged to let me let her plug in her new song she found, which basically meant, shut my stupid music off as soon as physically possible.
So I gave in and shut my song off prematurely so I didn't have to torture her poor little ears with that lame 1990s music. I asked her, "You didn't like my song?" She responded with another question, scoffing, "What was that, anyway?"
Well, it might have been a one hit wonder back in the day, but it's still a classic jam!
So....as soon as I dropped her off, I turned it on again, louder this time and rapped by myself all the way home!
If she wasn't going to enjoy it, I sure was!
