DCS handles Wolves, 'Riders

McCOOK, Neb. -- Dundy County-Stratton made it a sweep with victories in the boys' and girls' Cattle Trail brackets on Tuesday at the Peter & Dolores Graff Event Center.

The boys contest saw DCS erupt for 77 points en-route to a 77-30 victory over Maywood/Hayes Center Tuesday.

Leading 16-12 early in the second quarter, the Tigers closed the half on a 24-5 run to extend their lead to 40-17 at intermission.

The second half was much of the same, as DCS outscored MHC 37-13 in the final two quarters.

DCS (2-1) was led by Phalen Sanford's 20 points, while Guillermo Diaz and Noah Kerchal had 11 and 10 points, respectively. Four other players, Brayden Baney, Michael Frederick, Jacob Gemborys and Brady Wonderly chipped in eight points each.

Kyle Fackler had 11 points and nine rebounds for MHC (0-3). Bryar Gerlach had a team-high 10 boards to go with his nine points.

DCS advances to play Medicine Valley in an 8 p.m. (CST) semifinal Friday at McCook Community College.

MHC will play an 8 p.m. consolation game against Arapahoe at McCook High School.

DCS 54, Southwest 6

McCOOK, Neb. -- Dundy County-Stratton scored the game's first 34 points en-route to a 54-6 win over Southwest.

Destiney Ebert's jumper with 1:05 left in the first half got Southwest on the board. A Caitlyn Smith free throw made it 37-3 at intermission.

DCS hit the running clock in the third quarter, outscoring Southwest 17-3 over the final half.

Ebert, Smith and Nicole Dewey each had two points for Southwest.

Final stats could not be obtained for DCS (3-0).

With the win, the Lady Tigers head to the Cattle Trail semifinals to face Decatur Community, Kan., which beat Arapahoe 46-40. Tip off is schedule for 6:30 p.m. (CST) at MCC.

Southwest (2-1) will play Arapahoe at McCook High School on Friday. Tip off will also be at 6:30 p.m.
