Big Give Day chance to prove our thankfulness

Wednesday, October 26, 2016

"Spooky" season will soon be over and we'll be on the slippery slope toward Christmas, with only a brief pause -- for Thanksgiving.

We'll get together the last Thursday in November, but just how thankful are we?

It feels good to give to a worthy cause, not only for the affluent but for those who may have received help from a charity in the past, who are often among the most generous.

The Big Give McCook event is only a week away, midnight to midnight on Thursday, Nov. 3.

The event, taking the place of previous weeks-long efforts, offers a chance to contribute to smaller local charities that help meet needs that would otherwise be neglected.

It's never been easier to contribute to your favorite local charity.

You can visit a "giving station" or the Big Give McCook website, biggivemccook.org, where you can choose up to 10 organizations at once.

Giving stations will be open during regular business hours at the YMCA, McCook National Bank, Great Western Bank, Amfirst, Horizon Bank, First Central Bank and Hillcrest Nursing Home. Regular lobby hours are 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the YMCA an 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Your gift will be leveraged by Platinum sponsors McCook National Bank and the Graff Charitable Foundation, the latter pledging a $25,000 matching grant for all contributions giving during the 24-hour donation period.

Other corporate sponsorships will boost "power hours" at the various giving stations, such as the YMCA's 5-6 a.m. when donations will be doubled for organizations selected by the donor.
