Letter to the Editor

ISIS SISIs

Thursday, July 14, 2016

Dear Editor,

Of all the troubles in the world, the one that troubles me the most is ISIS.

Put as simply and as straight-forward as I know how, the ISIS murderers and maimers are nothing but a bunch of chicken livers.

Because I'm an old guy who peddles his words to the public through newspapers and books, they won't heed my voice.

However, the good news is, they will listen to those of you who are savvy about social media and use it in your daily life to communicate with hundreds, thousands -- and in some cases -- millions of people through Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In and dozens of other social media sites.

Please, listen closely. I have some advice for you social media specialists. I picked this up in the 1960s in a college sociology class at Kansas State College of Pittsburg, where I majored in journalism and minored in sociology.

Here's the advice and I implore you social media spinners to use it maliciously to mess with the minds of those dumb kids -- stupefied by video games -- who think hiding from life as an ISIS thug is a fun way to gain internet and instant television news fame.

This is straight from the sociology textbook: "The most effective forms of social control are informal sanctions such as shame, ridicule, sarcasm and criticism."

Catch the drift? From this moment forward, all who spread their news and views though social media need to start calling ISIS terrorists just exactly what they are: losers and abusers who are too dumb to know that they are not only murdering and maiming other people ... they are ruining their own lives and any chance they ever had of doing something -- make that anything -- of lasting importance.

As you social media specialists begin your assault on ISIS, I have a few suggestions on how to stick the sting of shame to those stupid and shiftless ISIS slaves.

First of all, turn the tables on them. Instead of calling them ISIS, which they want you to do, flip-flop the initials and call them SISI.

Get it? To me, that sounds like sissy, which is exactly what those ignorant animals are.

Shame them, you social media guys and gals! Ridicule them! Chastise them!

Criticize them!

As I still remember clearly, we Americans did it during the World War II years, running crazed caricatures of our enemies: the "Japs" and the "Huns." The Japanese and the Germans didn't like it, of course, but those cruel caricatures served their purpose: rallying the American people against the hateful aggressors who were trying to conquer the world by slaughtering all who stood in their way.

I know we are taught to be nice. I also know that the two greatest principles in life are, "Love thy neighbor as thyself," and "Love thy Lord, thy God with all your heart."

But I also know what my Daddy told me 70-some years ago, "When your donkey is in the ditch, pull it out."

Well, folks, I've had it. My donkey is in the ditch. And I hope you have reached your limit, too. Let's lower the boom on SISI (formerly known as ISIS). Let's start calling them exactly what they are: the scum on the pond of life.

Respectfully submitted,

Gene O. Morris,

McCook, Neb.

  • It's hard to believe he characterizes the ISIS members as " dumb kids -- stupefied by video games ". So I guess he wants other kids or , I guess, even adults to shame them. Perhaps that will do the trick. So senile.

  • With the truck attack in France Democrats in Congress will be demanding more laws on who can own trucks. Republicans will say trucks do not kill people, people kill people. This November vote for who you think will be the best at fighting the war on terror.
