Letter to the Editor

What about rights of the child?

Monday, April 11, 2016

Dear Editor,

It is interesting to me to watch the media and especially those who are actively following the campaign on TV.

I have to be careful of what I say or I may have an anti-Trump rally at my door. When asked lately if there should be punishment for women who have an abortion. I have "some" agreement with what he said. It obviously is the responsibility of both male and female to raise that child. There has been much criticism as to why he didn't "think" the question over more with a "better" answer.

Why do we have to even "think" about a politically-correct answer? If something is wrong, it's wrong. Yes, both parents are wrong if they take the life of a child.

Then the statement had to be amended to say the doctors and clinics are guilty.

Really?

Are the gun factories guilty for murders? No, if we now have or would have all electric cars we wouldn't need any more gas stations. No more abortion -- no more clinics or doctors except for abortions to save the mother, or rape or incest.

Even then, many who have had a rape or incest even happen (according to reports) that even then they feel like they wished they had kept the baby. The big question again is -- when does life begin?

It happens at conception. This is when God starts life. In Isaiah 44:4 we read: "thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and He that formed thee from the womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens along; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself."

That being said, we or anyone anywhere running for any office should not have to be under such "close scrutiny" by the media for simply standing up for the law and for something which si wrong. Ironically over the years, candidates have said it's only up to the woman to do whatever she wants with her body. Really? What about the "rights" of the child.

Sincerely,

Jim Howard

  • Actually, for Christians, the question of when life starts is fairly easy to answer. God came to earth in the form of a fully human man - Jesus. Part of being a fully human man was for Jesus to be 9 months in mary's womb. That in combination with Jesus's " do not kill " instruction should settle the abortion matter for the Christian fold. Curious to see if anyone disagrees with this analysis

  • For all those Pro Life supporters remember your position and the position of your church when Nebraskans vote on retaining the death penality. Life in prison with no chance of parole protects society. The death penality is not needed. Politicians that say they are pro life but say they favor the death penality are just playing politics instead of having a true moral position on life.

  • Dennis you are talking the difference between those individuals who are innocent and helpless and those who have taken the life (or lives) of another person(s). The death penalty is not only needed, it needs to be public as a reminder to those of our society who would plan to, and commits the act of taking a life (or lives). A baby is the consequence of not controlling ones desires. The child has not done anything to anyone. Whereas the murderor has taken the life of another person. As a society, how can we in good conscious show pity on those who kill another human and not condemn those who kill an innocent child? I for one do not want my tax dollars going to support a murderor for the rest of their life and also support the murder of babies. Also remember that there are many, many people out there that desperately want a child and would welcome a child into their home. I don't think you would find many people who would welcome a convicted killer into their homes. Abortion is wrong. Capital punishment, while distasteful to a "civilized" society, is needed.
