Holbrook woman wins weekly Pigskin Picks prize

Monday, October 12, 2015

McCOOK, Neb. -- In a topsy-turvy week of football upsets, Bonnie Stark of Holbrook surpassed all entrants in last week's Pigskin Picks contest by missing only three games and exactly guessing the Wisconsin-Nebraska tiebreaker score of 44 total points.

As the weekly winner, Bonnie will receive a $25 gift certificate, usable at any of the businesses which sponsor Pigskin Picks. The sponsors are Advance Services, Horizon Bank, JL Construction, Loop Brewing Co., Old Sarge's Bar, Phones, Etc., Runza, Samway Floor Covering & Furniture, Shelter Insurance and Western Tire Co.

The sponsors also compete, with each week's winner receiving free ad space. So far this year, Scott Jeffers of Shelter Insurance has led the way, out-guessing all other sponsors four of the five weeks of this year's pigskin picking contests.

To record his latest victory, Jeffers correctly picked all but three of the 20 contests. That's an 85 percent accuracy record, matching Bonnie Stark's prediction mark.

Two of Bonnie's and Scott's three misses were for the same games: Chadron's win over Chase County and Eustis-Farnam's win over Southwest. Bonnie's other miss was Oklahoma State's win over West Virginia, while Scott missed the Chicago Bears' victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.

This week's Pigskin Picks' contest appears on Page 10 of today's newspaper. Entries may be deposited at the sponsoring businesses or at the Gazette, or entries may be mailed to: Pigskin Picks, P.O. Box 1268, McCook, NE 69001.

The deadline for receipt of entries is noon Friday.
