Clara "Velma" Ogorzolka

Jan. 2, 1922 - July 24, 2015

HOLDREGE, Neb. -- Velma Ogorzolka, age 93, formerly of Holdrege, died at St. John's Nursing Home in Kearney on July 24, 2015.

She was born the fourth child of Eddie and Clara (Fry) Harshfield at Prosser, Nebraska, on Jan. 2, 1922. The Harshfield family moved northeast of Cambridge, Nebraska, when Velma was two years old. She started school at the Black Top School. In 1932, the family moved south of Cambridge, where she attended East Valley School.

Velma lived through the devastation of the "Dirty 30s," along with the Republican River flood of 1935.

Velma married Leo Ogorzolka and to this union two schildren were born: Linda and Mark. Velma spent her adult life raising her two children, helping with the family farm operation and working at Luther's Market and Thordike's General Store.

In 1987, Velma retired and moved to Holdrege, where she babysat her two great-granddaughters. Velma gained great please spending time with family and her young grandchildren. Velma never missed an oppurtunity to send a card or a note on special occasions to family and friends.

Velma's homemade noodles and her helping hands will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; brother; Harold; sisters, Ruth and Norma; and grandson, Scott Keyser.

She is survived by her two children: daughter, Linda Keyser (Les Lorenzen) of Holdrege and son, Mark (Carla) of Kearney; three grand-daughters, Jody (Dave) Anderson of Holdrege, Staci (Jason) Gleason of Odessa, Nebraska, and Chelsey (Bryce) Bishop of Edison, Nebraska; three great-grandaughters, Jessica (Drew) Swanson, Sidney Anderson (Sid LaFave) and Madison Glerason; great-grandson, Dillon Gleason; greatgreat-grandchildren, Jaci LeFave and Bryden Bishop; sisters, Lois Carpenter of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming and Joyce Kelly of Lincoln, Nebraska; and brother, Charles Harshfield of Minden, Nebraska.

Inurnment will be graveside at the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Brett Hienricks officiaitng. Memorials may be left in her name at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.
