GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- Kay Marie Wilson passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, at the Golden Living Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island. She was 78 years old.

Kay was born on Jan. 12, 1937, to parents, Lloyd Ensel and Dorothy May (Nelson) Scharf in Fruitland, Idaho. As a young child, Kay moved with her family to the Curtis area and attended school in Farnam, Nebraska. She graduated from high school in Chicago, Illinois.

On Dec. 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Dwaine Dorsey Wilson in Hayes Center. To this union seven children were born. Kay was a busy mother and homemaker. She also worked for the Harmon Toothpick Company in McCook and did custodial work in a nursing home in Lincoln.

She was an active member of Phillips United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was also a faithful member of Amvets and the VFW Auxiliary, where she served as state commander and the membership committee for several years.

In her free time, she loved to work in her flower garden, stained glass, knitting and crocheting and genealogy work. Her favorite time was spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Dwaine Wilson on June 29, 2011; her infant daughter, Carol Kay Wilson; son, Steven Wilson; great-granddaughter, Marrissa (Gay) Kroll; and parents, Lloyd Scharf and Dorothy Scharf Nielson and step-father, Art Nielson; son-in-law, Mark Kenner; brothers-in-law, Virgil Wilson, Leonard Walker, Jerry Felker, Reed Loomis and Paul Gigax; and sister-in-law, Patricia Wilson.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Kenner and special friend, Bill Stokley, of McCook, Nebraska, and Nancy and husband, Henry Kroll III of Hallsville, Texas; sons, Gilbert Wilson of Phillips, Nebraska, Keith Wilson of Grand Island, and Terry Wilson and wife, Priscilla, of Hurricane, West Virginia; daughter-in-law, Alma Wilson Farr and husband, Billy, of North Platte, Nebraska; sister, Lloydelle and husband, Joe Bellamy, of Elwood, Nebraska; brothers, Donald Scharf and wife, Leila, of Lexington, Nebraska, Ronald Scharf Sr. and wife, Patricia, of Pahala, Hawaii, and Leonard Scharf Sr. and wife, Nancy, of Medford, Oregon; 14 grandchildren: Keshia Neri, Kristina Keyser, Matthew Kenner, Erika Kenner, Drew Wilson, Austin Martin, Brenda Green, Joshua Stevens, Henry Kroll IV, Sondra Kroll, Moira Legault, Rosalee Wilson, Ramsay Wilson and Carter Wilson; 27 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Velma Walker of Maywood, Nebraska, Vonda Loomis--Gigax of Hayes Center, Nebraska, Norma Wilson of Culbertson, Nebraska, Shirley and husband, Jack Bishop, of Culbertson, Sharon Felker of Greeley, Colorado; brother-in-law, Darwin Wilson and wife, Vonna, of Culbertson; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in her name to the American Cancer Society, Nebraska Chapter, 3808 28th Ave Suite E, Kearney, NE 68845.

Visitation will be at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, from 1 to 8 p.m. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.carpenterbreland.com

Funeral service will be Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Pastor Marta Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at the Culbertson Cemetery.
