An architect's rendition of a planned addition to Brooks Hall on the McCook Community College campus shows the view from the west. Mid Plains governors accepted a bid from Cheever Construction of Lincoln, Nebraska, for $2.082 million for the project, which includes an elevator and addition to the cafeteria. The project is expected to be completed by the end of July. The board also approved the purchase of $86,000 worth of diesel training equipment for the college's Diesel program in North Platte.

  • Another great improvement for MCC. Quality, personalized education at one of the lowest prices in the State.

  • If memory serves me correctly, due to an increase in ag land vauuation, the college DECREASED their tax levy this year. I am very thankful we have such a great institution as MCC in SW Nebraska.

  • Yes, by all means, let's NOT allow the college to expand and bring in outside influx to the local economy, and by extension, hamper the ability to educate our future leaders.

Let us all campaign against such atrocities edbru.

I'm beginning to loose faith in man kind I fear.

  • Is this project not paid for with tax revenue? Maybe it is a great project and will have benefit, "Nick", but it really depends on what side of the tax fence you sit on, paying or receiving. I think sometimes taxpayers can get cynical especially when they see some of the less than worthy projects that our taxes are spent on. I do not consider this project at the college to be one of those less than worthy causes.

It is time to finally educate the politician, "dennis", on the property tax equation since he continually blows his own horn about holding the city levy steady for so many years. The LEVY is one part of calculating taxes owed by a property owner. The LEVY is the multiplier of the VALUATION to calculate the TOTAL TAX. Please show me the evidence that the state took in less property tax revenue this year over last.

  • The state of Nebraska levies NO property tax. Local governments have property tax to support their services. Therefore, the state could not take in more, less or the same in property tax.

  • Speaking of raising taxes..... I don't believe my taxes went up 17% in a single year until the County built a jail. Don't get me wrong, I still feel that you either progress or wilt away, but over the past year it wasn't that my taxes went up so much as the value of my properties. I actually had my values increase $38,000.00 with no improvments on my primary residence and a small rental.

Only one entity can do that, not the City, but the county.

And still, I approve the expansion of the College, NOT because it profits me personally, but because its the right thing to do.

Good work MCC! Not withering, but expanding..... there IS NO STATIC MOTION.
