Charles 'Charlie' Richard Petrusky Conroy

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - Charles "Charlie" Richard Petrusky Conroy, 59, passed away unexpectedly Jan. 9, 2014, at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Born June 22, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was the son of Margaret (Gatterer), Richard Petrusky, and his adoptive step-father, John Conroy.

Following graduation from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he began work as a Department of the Army civilian at White Sands Missile Range (WSMR). He invested more than 20 years in developing and refining software codes, which became a cornerstone of WSMR's world class optical tracking capability.

Charlie enjoyed his family very much and took great pride in their many accomplishments. He loved the outdoors and frequented numerous state and national parks as time allowed. An excellent pianist himself, he loved encouraging the young people in his life in all their musical endeavors. He, himself, loved many genres of music including classical, opera and rock. Charlie had had a wide range of experiences in his lifetime which contributed to his vast store of knowledge and interests.

Preceding him in death were all three parents, brother, Michael George Petrusky Conroy, and brother, Stephen Bernard Petrusky Conroy.

Survivors include his longtime partner, Teresa Godman and their daughters, Kelley Thompson and Cassey Godman of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a sister, Michelle and husband, Russ Weidner of Culbertson, Nebraska; brothers, Richard Conroy of Bronx, New York; John Conroy and Joe Conroy and wife, Linda, all of Lincoln, Nebraska; a sister-in-law, Debbie Conroy of Omaha, Nebraska; and six nieces and nephews. He also leaves numerous respected colleagues and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at La Posta de Mesilla at 10:30 a.m. During the service, there will be a time for family and friends to share their memories and anecdotes about this remarkable man.
