Invest in apple

Dear Editor,

Many speak of investing in gold or silver but those investments must go up in price to make you money.

I offer what we did as an option. Kathy and I bought an apple tree seedling for $5 back in 1979. took most of 5 years to start to produce but year in and out it does.

It averages about 50 pounds of sweet apples a year. This year was very good at near 100 pounds.

That is $300 in the store if you bought them and it took 20 minutes to pick them. As for the tree it gets no watering, nor fertilizer nor pesticides. Yep, a few have bugs in them but not many.

So for 30 years of production, we guess about 1,500 pounds of apples give or take for a $5 investment.

The tree is on a farm we do not own. but the landowner let us do it, so you do not need to have land to have an apple tree. This fall, consider an apple tree investment.
