Twelve-year-old Patience Carman, right, of Oberlin, Kansas, giggles with Judge Rachel Boyle of Phillipsburg, Kansas, over the cut-and-snip process and color selections that went into making the "raggy quilt" that her grandmother, Norma Carman, helped her make for the Decatur County 4-H fair. On Tuesday morning, Boyle awarded Patience a purple ribbon, as she did 11-year-old Skyler Brown, below, also 12 and from Oberlin. Skyler's project helps her keep track of her family's birthday, including the newest cousin, Crew, born Monday.
