BEAVER CITY, Neb. -- Ruth Marie Kentfield, 85, died Sunday (June 8, 2014), at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, Nebraska.

She was born on Dec. 23, 1928, on the Hanni farm southwest of Hendley, Nebraska, to Ernest and Anna M. (Schmidt) Hanni.

Ruth attended rural school at Middle Rockton near the family farm, and graduated from Beaver City High School in 1946. She taught two years in the Martin District. She married Lawrence Kentfield on July 16, 1950, on the Hanni farm south of Hendley. While her husband served in the military, she followed him to Quantico, Virginia, and worked as a waitress. After his military obligation was fulfilled, they moved back to the family farm southwest of Hendley, Nebraska, to farm and ranch. She ran the café at the Beaver City Sale Barn. She received a Nebraska Secretary of State Poll Worker Hall of Fame award for years of service with election board. In July of 1988, they moved from the farm to Beaver City.

She was a member of the Hollinger United Methodist Church of Hollinger, Nebraska, and belonged to the Nebraska and Furnas County Livestock Feeder's Auxiliary, Devises Ladies Aide, and Hobby Club and the UMW of Hollinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence, and sister, Josephine Welborn.

She is survived by children, Scott and wife, Donna Kentfield of Norton, Kansas and Michele Kentfield of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister, Arlene Clawson of Holdrege, Nebraska; five grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren.

Funeral services are Friday, June 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Faith Community Church in Beaver City with Revs. Keith Theobald and Linda Knipping officiating. Interment is at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.

Viewing and visitation is Thursday, June 12, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City, with family being present from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and prior to the service at the church.
