Alice 'Tillie' Shirley

OBERLIN, Kansas -- Alice "Tillie" Shirley, 94, died Saturday (March 29, 2014), at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.

She was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Norcatur, Kansas, to Ray and Emma (Bailey) Stapp. She graduated from Norcatur High School in 1937. She married Manley "Mike" Shirley in Norton, Kansas on Jan. 21, 1940.

They farmed near Norcatur, then moved to Oberlin in 1984. She was a farm wife and homemaker.

She was a member of Norcatur United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Emma Stapp; husband, Manley "Mike" Shirley; brother, Donald Stapp; and infant brothers, Ira andMyron.

Survivors include children, Herb and wife, Carol of Oberlin, John and wife, Joan of Scott City and Pam and husband, Gary McClelland of Shawnee, Oklahoma; brother, Dewaine Stapp of Oberlin; sisters, Delores Longwith of Hastings, Nebraska, sisters-in-law, Juanita Eckhart of Oberlin, Merle Shirley of Oberlin and Goldie Stapp of Oberlin; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services are Thursday, April 3, 2014, 11 a.m. at Pauls Funeral Home. Interment is at the Norcatur Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Cedar Living Center, Golden Age Center or Norcatur United Methodist Church.
